If you read my previous post, you know that I fell in love with Golden Rock Inn while traveling in Nevis last month. My husband and I stopped by for lunch and were so enchanted by the stunning setting, delicious food, and warm, friendly reception, we returned with the rest of my family for an equally impressive dinner. Tucked away in the lush jungle above Gingerland, Golden Rock features sweeping views of the Atlantic. This quirky and romantic hideaway, located on the grounds of a former sugar mill, has been lovingly and artfully restored by artists Helen and Brice Marden. Lush gardens, bright colors, and modern furnishings play against the restored centuries-old grey stone buildings — providing balance and warmth. The result is pure magic. 

Unfussy, unpretentious, and inspiring, Golden Rock is the perfect place to decompress and daydream. It's also a great spot to write, paint, or indulge in other creative pursuits.

Accommodations are in colorful cottages scattered across the grounds, along with a two story suite housed in a former sugar mill. The 11 rooms epitomize pared-down elegance—simple and comfortable, decorated with a mix of modern and antique furnishings and colorful accents.  Additional touches include Egyptian cotton linens, Le Labo toiletries, and free wifi in the rooms and verandahs.  We toured several of the cottages and they were all charming in their own way, but our favorite rooms were Sugar Mill and Paradise. 

In the morning, you can enjoy coffee on your terrace, explore the local trails, and return for an afternoon swim in the freshwater pool. I could easily spend my time quietly exploring the exquisite, expansive gardens (designed by Raymond Jungles) which feel native to the property.

Complimentary breakfast is provided to hotel guests each morning from 8:30 to 10:30 AM. The Rock serves Caribbean and International cuisine, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We especially enjoyed the lobster sandwich, and grilled fish dishes. Be sure to sample some of their delicious cocktails. The signature drink, Mount St Helena, made with vodka, rosemary, lime, and cranberry, was a refreshing alternative to all the rum punch we sampled while on the island.

Need To Know

--There is no air-conditioning. Although we didn't stay on the property, its location felt cool due to the constant trade-winds

--The location is remote. If you want to explore Nevis and it’s numerous beaches, historical sites, and restaurants, you will need to rent a car. 

--It’s quiet. The only sounds you'll hear are soft breezes, birdcalls, and ice clinking in your cocktail glass. Evening entertainment is provided by the vervet monkeys and donkeys making regular appearances around the property.
